[WELLCOMMDC CAMEO] Barry’s Austin and WellcommDC escaped the 105 degree heat wave together thanks to Barry's Talent Development Lead Josey Greenwell. Josey hooked WellcommDC Community Manager Reilly Knecht up with a guest pass for his Tuesday 5:20 PM class last week while she was visiting ATX from DC. Thank you for the warm, Texas welcome, Josey! Give the Instagram post some love, and be sure to follow Josey and Reilly on IG, too.
[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Skylar Boykin, Lead Trainer at Pvolve Austin Downtown.
WellcommATX: Where do you work…out?
Skylar Boykin: I work full time for our two amazing Pvolve studios in Austin! One is Downtown, the other is in Westlake, and our third studio is opening in Bee Cave soon! I love spending the time I'm not teaching going for long walks around town and finding other functional ways to move my body! I need to be better about taking more classes, but the ones that are always a hit for me are Mōtiv, Austin Bouldering Project, and Haus of B Pilates.
WATX: What does “wellness” mean to you?
SB: "Wellness" for me ebbs and flows with the seasons of life. Sometimes that means getting my daily workout in, eating well rounded meals, and thriving in all areas. Other seasons, it means taking care of my mental health and letting other things dissipate so that I can show up to the table as much as possible. I try not to hold myself to anyone else's standard but my own, and that I can live with happily!
WATX: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?
SB: 1: To try at least one new workout/wellness class every month: send me recs! 2: Connect with my clients outside of class. 3: Get better at golf. 4: Take care of my own body with massages and other rehab practices!
WATX: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?
SB: To be honest, the people who inspire me the most are the people who come to my class or I see showing up on Instagram to other people's classes! That is real and makes me want to do better and be there for them as much as I can be! We are all just trying to make it through the day, and so when clients take the time to spend 50 minutes with me, I feel super lucky! Plus being nice to your trainers is a great way to make them feel loved, too!
WATX: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?
SB: Don't try to do it all at once, and don't over complicate things. Eat real foods, discard the processed stuff, move your body in a way that feels good for the life you live, and be kinder in how you speak to yourself! Thoughts go a long way!
