[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Phillip Solomon, a Barry’s Instructor and NASM Trainer in Austin, TX.

WellcommATX: Where do you work…out?

Phillip Solomon: In addition to Barry’s, I am currently working out at Los Campeones in North Austin, truly one of the best facilities I’ve seen since moving to Texas. As soon as I got home from filming Season 2 of Deal or No Deal Island, I really wanted to increase my weight lifting, take my training to the next level, and surround myself with athletes who share my sense of focus and dedication, and Los has allowed me to do that.

WATX: What does “wellness” mean to you?

PS: Wellness, to me, is about alignment — not perfection. It’s the balance between strength, clarity, and resilience. It’s showing up for yourself with discipline and compassion, knowing when to push and when to pause. Wellness isn’t just how you look or feel — it’s how you live, how you adapt, and how connected you are to your purpose and your people.

As a trainer, my job isn’t just to guide someone through reps—it’s to hold space for their humanity. Some days, that looks like celebrating a new personal best; other days, it’s just listening while they try to hold it together. Authenticity means I don’t pretend to have it all together either. I bring my heart into the room. Vulnerability isn’t a liability—it’s a bridge. And over time, it builds the kind of trust that changes people far beyond the gym floor.

WATX: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?

PS: My fitness goals over the next 12 months are all about leveling up — physically and professionally. I’m diving deeper into online training, creating more fitness content to connect with my community, and stepping on stage for my first bodybuilding competition right here in Texas. I have found an amazing coach and friend in Braden Wuerch, and I can’t wait to see the package we bring to the stage in a couple months.

WATX: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?

PS: My first inspiration will always be my clients and former students. I will never stop being grateful for those people who have given me the platform that I take pride in each day. Here in Austin, I have so many people that I look up to and admire for their devotion to fitness and wellness. My coworkers Josey Greenwell, Brandon Gonzalez, Kenzie Vance, and Ashley McMahan Yang have taught me so much about being present in the exercise community, but also, the Austin community as a whole. In addition, I love cross training, and I am continually impressed with the work of Chris Chandler, Tee Carmona, Jane O’Donnell, JaCorey Mosely, Bailey Wesselmann, and the entire LSKD family here in Austin.

WATX: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?

PS: One day, one week, one month at a time. Fitness is a daunting journey, but it is also worthwhile, if you incorporate small goals and objectives along the way. Remember that small steps, big steps, and even missteps are all steps in the right direction.
