[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to JaCorey Mosely, an Instructor at RIDE Indoor Cycling in Austin, TX.

WellcommATX: Where do you work…out?

JaCorey Mosely: I workout at RIDE Indoor Cycling at the Downtown studio. I teach every Monday and Wednesday at 7:45 pm, Tuesday at 5:45 pm, and Saturday at 11:30 am. When I have time, I love running Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail Downtown. I also take Josh Bush’s Interval class at Studio Three as well as Tasha Bates’ and Phillip Solomon’s classes at Barry’s! Also, I am always taking every other instructor’s classes at RIDE! Other than that, catch me at cheer practice with my girls doing some standing back tucks!

WATX: What does “wellness” mean to you?

JM: “Wellness” starts with the mental and then the physical. It also has to be sought after with patience, persistence, and grace. Once you create space mentally to work on yourself, it’ll trickle down to a better form of intrinsic motivation and self worth. And then your physical well being will fall into a better place. And this comes and goes, sometimes the physical comes before the mental. But it’s good to find a communal balance if you can.

WATX: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?

JM: Over the next twelve months I want to improve my mental health by starting to see a therapist. I am pretty sure it’s a puzzle piece I’ve been holding on to that I need to put right in the center, and the puzzle won’t be complete still, but it’ll at least have grounding! I also want to run a half marathon. I enjoy running so much, but COVID came for my life and lungs 7 times!

WATX: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?

JM: Oh my! Myself for one. I really like the way I look and feel. I’m super thankful and blessed that I have support systems for my mental and physical health. My grandma goes walking every morning, and she’s 87. She also does crossword puzzles and can kick some ass at Scrabble. “Reading keeps your mind sharp,” she always says. I also have a great group of friends and a partner who all enjoy fitness and staying in shape! So it’s just surrounding yourself with those who care about you mentally and physically! My family: they support me so much in everything that I do! Last, but certainly not least, the RIDE community that I have met along the way while teaching. The instructors, our clients, our front desk staff: it’s literally unmatched!

WATX: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?

JM: I say just do it! Change it up. And if trying something new doesn’t fit into your life right now, regroup and then try again later. You can always change your mind. Do what feels good and what feels right. And do things with your friends. It’s always fun to experience something with a friend. Also, talk to the instructors if you’re new to it. It’s what we’re there for.
