[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Evan Lutins, an Instructor at Urban Lagree in Austin, TX.

WellcommATX: Where do you work…out?

Evan Lutins: These days, I mainly workout at Urban Lagree! Since I’m still fairly new to teaching Lagree, I try to take as many classes as I can, not only because it is a great workout, but because taking classes helps me improve as an instructor. I’ll mix in a Barry’s class every once in a while or hit my apartment gym if I’m feeling lazy.

WATX: What does wellness mean to you?

EL: To me, wellness goes beyond just physical fitness: it’s about taking a more well-rounded approach. That includes implementing daily habits to support mental sharpness, mental health, and a balanced diet, to name a few aspects. And mental “sharpness” looks different for everyone, but at the core, it’s about finding personal routines to make you feel confident and energized throughout the day.

I’m not saying you need to be locked in on wellness 24/7/365, there are definitely times to let loose. But having the discipline to refocus is key.

WATX: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?

EL: Over the next year, my wellness goals are all about building sustainable habits. I’m focusing on minor practices that can be done on a daily or weekly basis such as meditation, doing cold plunges, and intermittent fasting, with the goal of working these habits into my standard routine in the long term.

I’d also like to branch out and try new workout routines and studios. I’ve found that rotating workouts keeps things fresh and helps from getting burnt out when it comes to working out.

WATX: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?

EL: My friends are a big source of inspiration and accountability when it comes to fitness. Julia McBride, one of the studio managers at Urban Lagree, never lets me slack off in class and always keeps me on my game. My friend Mark Pattis, head honcho at Dell JCC Fitness, is my go-to running friend, constantly reminding me to keep up with my cardio.

WATX: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?

EL: Start small: pick a few manageable tasks you can stick to each week and build from there. Over time, those weekly tasks will naturally become part of your daily routine.
