[HIGH FIVE] WellcommATX headed north this week to WellcommDC where we gave a High Five to Casey McCarthy, an Instructor at BASH Boxing in Arlington and Fairfax, VA.

Wellcomm: Where do you work…out?

Casey McCarthy: I currently coach and workout at BASH Boxing, as well as train boxing 1:1 with my coach Jonathan Nampha. When I'm not gloved up, you'll most likely find me lifting at Onelife Fitness Ballston, popping into classes around the Arlington area, or getting steps in by walking my dog!

WC: What does wellness mean to you?

CM: To me, wellness means finding a healthy balance both physically and mentally. It’s about showing up consistently, listening to my body, and choosing habits that support my physical goals as well as my overall well-being. When I was younger, I focused so heavily on the physical side that I neglected rest days, adequate sleep, and proper nutrition. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that all of these elements need to work together to achieve true balance.

WC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?

CM: This year, I’m working to increase my strength and maintain strong endurance while training for a hopeful entry into the Haymakers for Hope boxing event this fall.

WC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?

CM: I’m lucky to be surrounded by people who constantly push me to show up. My entire coaching team at BASH brings something special to the table and keeps me coming back. A shoutout to Jamie Purtell, my “try something new” partner, and my boxing coach, Jonathan Nampha, the best in the business. I’d also be remiss not to mention my sparring partners who’ve put in the work with me, most recently being Neeta Singh. Talk about pushing someone and keeping them accountable!

WC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?

CM: Wellness isn’t one-size-fits-all. Don’t be afraid to work through trial and error until you find what feels right for you. There are so many amazing options in the Arlington/DMV area, so find a path you love and keep moving forward!
