[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Raven Gabrielson, an Instructor at Ritual Moves in Austin, TX.
WellcommATX: Where do you work…out?
Raven Gabrielson: I currently teach and take reformer and mat pilates classes at Ritual Moves. I also weight train at Gold's Gym.
WATX: What does wellness mean to you?
RG: Wellness is a full integration of the mind, body, and environment. For me, this looks like a regulated nervous system, clean, healthy food to eat, a loving, supportive community around me, and sustainable movement. In my day-to-day life, this looks like somatic exercises, a mostly whole foods diet, regular movement, and involving myself in opportunities to help others attain their wellness goals. I allow myself freedom to choose my workouts based on my mood and hormones, I eat intuitively without restriction, and I surround myself with a beautiful community.
WATX: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?
RG: My wellness goals over the next twelve months are to continue to show up authentically and allow curiosity to lead my movement journey as a practitioner. I will accomplish this by exploring other movement modalities as inspiration and continuing to lead with an open mind.
WATX: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?
RG: I am deeply inspired by so many individuals that I could hardly name them all. Every instructor I teach with at Ritual Moves is incredible. Each instructor has their own unique movement fingerprint that can not be replicated. Additionally, they are probably the most positive group of individuals I have met! I am deeply grateful to work alongside so many people who inspire me. The studio owner Kati Villavicencio has been my mentor since beginning my mat certification earlier this year and leads our team with the most admirable devotion. My past mentor and good friend, Amanda Hughes, owner of Modern Reformer Training, continues to be a strong figure supporting my professional fitness career development. I am also inspired by my girlfriend, my siblings, my mother, and my grandmother for their dedication to their movement practices, and I’m grateful for our shared love of wellness.
WATX: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?
RG: People often jump in trying to change everything overnight and throw themselves into crazy, high-intensity lifestyles. Instead, focus on changing one thing at a time, and show up for it every day. Then, when you've mastered that element and it's integrated into your routine, add on the next layer. Find a movement modality that you love. Just because a certain type of workout is trendy right now doesn't mean it has to be your favorite. You need to find movement that makes you feel good and that you can show up to regularly. Eat as many whole foods as you can, and surround yourself with uplifting individuals.
