[HIGH FIVE] WellcommATX headed north this week to WellcommDC where we gave a High Five to Courtney Veatch, an Instructor at Barry’s and Life Time Clarendon in Arlington, VA.

Wellcomm: Where do you workout?

Courtney Veatch: Barry’s truly is the best workout in the world, and that’s implemented into my routine at least three times a week because it does everything I need and the music and energy are unmatched. When I’m not there, I enjoy doing my own workouts at Life Time and try to implement some form of Pilates or solidcore one to two times a week.

WC: What does wellness mean to you?

CV: Wellness means happiness. When I’m not connected to my wellness, everything else falls apart. I believe taking care of your body is one of the key cornerstones that helps every other area of your life thrive.

WC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?

CV: This is a tough one. For years, I always had one big goal. Whether it was completing a marathon or hitting a new PR at CrossFit, I always had specific milestones in mind. I think my constant goal is to keep the joy in whatever I do and move every single day. I love feeling stronger at the end of the day, so I want to continue to do what helps me feel good.

WC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?

CV: There are too many incredible people in the fitness industry in this area to name, but Kevin DiMichele has been a mentor to me in every way possible, and his music and instruction is truly unmatched. Kennady Whitehead has been a constant for me since Day One of wanting to be an instructor, and her drive in the gym is something I admire deeply. My friend Daniel Wolf has been a Day One attendee of my spin classes and inspires me everyday in the gym. He has completed countless Hyrox competitions and is always raising the bar for everyone around him. One of my best friends, Marissa DeSantis, keeps me accountable everyday because she is a crazy person with fitness and is always pushing the limits, which challenges me.

WC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?

CV: Just start and don’t compare. There is so much noise (mostly good) in this area when it comes to fitness, which can feel overwhelming when you are just getting started. Remember that comparison is the thief of joy and that even just starting with a goal of consistently hitting a step goal each day is a win. We are all in different places, and being consistent with your personal goals and staying in your own lane will take you so far! Find the joy in movement and be grateful for what your body can do!
