WellcommATX: The Best of Austin's Wellness Community
WellcommATX is the email newsletter bringing you the best of Austin’s wellness community. Get On The List and get Wellcomm sent directly to your inbox. Have a friend who would love Wellcomm? Then please forward our email or tag them on our IG.
[EVENTS RETURN] We’re bringing back Austin event coverage! But rather than share a long list, we’re curating one event per email and calling it our Hit Event. Keep reading to see what we picked this week, how we choose our Hit Events, and the experiences you can expect from Wellcomm going forward.
[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Maddie Roger, Founder of Movin With Mad, Certified Personal Trainer, and Instructor at Barry’s and MINT in Washington, DC and Arlington, VA.
Wellcomm: Where do you workout?
Maddie Roger: I’m constantly on the move around the District: most days, you’ll find me lifting or coaching at a FLEX. If I’m not there, I’m likely sprinting it out at Barry’s or dancing at MINT. And if Alchemy Collective is hosting a pop-up, you already know I’m showing up.
WC: What does wellness mean to you?
MR: Wellness is about building a sustainable and supportive relationship with your body and mind. It goes beyond aesthetics and means focusing instead on consistency, confidence, and adaptability. It extends a workout setting, defining how you carry yourself in the world. At its core, it’s a lifelong practice of coming back to myself with intention and respect.
WC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?
MR: Over the next year, my wellness goals are centered around deepening my relationship with my body while continuing to grow both physically and mentally. I want to keep building strength and expanding my capacity as an athlete: getting stronger, improving my running, and challenging myself with new modalities that push me. My two great loves are dancing and cycling, so you’ll see me doing a lot more of that! At the same time, I’m focused on prioritizing recovery and sustainability. Mentally, I want to stay grounded: managing stress, protecting my energy, and creating routines that support consistency without burnout. I know I need to show up for myself so I can continue showing up for the people that I help everyday.
WC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?
MR: I’ve learned so much about grace and authenticity from Sara Hoenes and Anita Singh. Lydia Pappas, Johnny Masarik, and Trevor Barton are true rays of sunshine: superstar instructors who inspire me every day. I strive to embody the kind of steady, uplifting presence that Brend Seng brings to every room. TJ Troy and Sadler Gensch are constant reminders of the power of showing up with passion, energy, and intention in every interaction. Above all, Jessica Burke remains a friend and mentor I’m endlessly grateful for: truly one of the smartest, coolest people I know and someone I feel lucky to learn from and be around.
WC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?
MR: Starting a wellness journey can feel overwhelming, but the truth is, it’s really not that serious. Movement was never meant to be a punishment for what you ate or how you look; it’s a tool to help you feel more connected, capable, and confident in your body. You don’t need the perfect plan, the perfect outfit, or the perfect routine to begin. What matters most is consistency, rooted in self-respect. Give yourself permission to explore what feels good, take the pressure off performance, and remember that progress is built through small, imperfect moments.

How do we pick our Hit Events? They’re curated exclusively for our WellcommATX Community from former High Fives. Each week, we’ll highlight one standout fitness event in the WellcommATX email. This could be:
a group workout
a pop-up fitness event
a race or charity run
a pickleball tournament
a cycling ride
a recovery event or
anything else fitness-related
These events will be shared with all Wellcomm email subscribers, but submissions from former High Fives who are subscribers are prioritized, ideally for events they’re organizing, leading, or personally involved with.
We’ll feature one event per week, so spots are limited. We’re grateful for everything our High Fives do for our fitness community and are excited to share these exclusive ongoing updates from the best of Austin!
