WellcommATX: The Best of Austin's Wellness Community

WellcommATX is the email newsletter bringing you the best of Austin’s wellness community. Get On The List and get Wellcomm sent directly to your inbox. Have a friend who would love Wellcomm? Then please forward our email or tag them on our IG.
[EVENTS RETURN] We’re bringing back Austin event coverage! But rather than share a long list, we’re curating one event per email and calling it our Hit Event. Keep reading to see what we picked this week, how we choose our Hit Events, and the experiences you can expect from Wellcomm going forward.
[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Katie Wilkes, an Instructor at Homebody Studios and Writer of Growing Pains in Austin, TX.
Wellcomm: Where do you workout?
Katie Wilkes: I work and workout at the same place almost everyday: Homebody Studios. My personal favorite is the hot mat, but I also love the reformer. You can come take my class on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays and experience how great the studio is firsthand!
WC: What does wellness mean to you?
KW: My coaching business, Wilkes Wellness, originally started as a newsletter, grew into coaching, and now means something much bigger as I expand. To me, wellness for myself and my business means that you have space in your day to take care of yourself.
WC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?
KW: I am racing in my first HYROX in June in New York City with my husband, dad, and stepmom. I watched my dad get his PR in Houston in March, and it was electric. For his 60th birthday, we are going to do a doubles in October, so the rest of the year will be centered around training for that.
WC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?
KW: My OG inspiration will always be Melissa Wood. I truly fell in love with Pilates doing her workouts during Covid. There are so many unbelievable instructors in Austin, but my shortlist is all the ladies at Homebody: lately I’ve been loving Claire Croman’s class. I also am on the edge of my seat for Understudy Sport’s release: I snagged a hat from Cam Patton (the founder) and am obsessed. Lastly, I love Maddy Hartnett and all of her content on hormones, acne, and gut health.
WC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?
KW: Simplify it! The most important thing to keep healthy is your own nervous system, and when you are overwhelmed with wellness trends (eat enough protein, use peptides, cycle sync, etc.), then no amount of bio-hacking, taking supplements, or exercising matters. Start with protecting the first five minutes of your morning and last five minutes before bed to take care of yourself, and build from there. I’ve learned this lesson the hard way many times!

[HIT EVENT]
• When: Saturday, May 9th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM
• Where: JETSET Downtown Austin
• Why: A celebratory kickoff for their new downtown studio: think music, drinks, snacks, and a ribbon-cutting moment welcoming a new fitness community into Austin.
• How: RSVP via the link in their IG bio.
How do we pick our Hit Events? They’re curated exclusively for our WellcommATX Community from former High Fives. Each week, we’ll highlight one standout fitness event in the WellcommATX email. This could be:
a group workout
a pop-up fitness event
a race or charity run
a pickleball tournament
a cycling ride
a recovery event or
anything else fitness-related
These events will be shared with all Wellcomm email subscribers, but submissions from former High Fives who are subscribers are prioritized, ideally for events they’re organizing, leading, or personally involved with.
We’ll feature one event per week, so spots are limited. We’re grateful for everything our High Fives do for our fitness community and are excited to share these exclusive ongoing updates from the best of Austin!
That’s this week’s edition of WellcommATX. Like what you read? Get On The List and get future editions sent directly to your inbox. Have a friend who needs to read Wellcomm? Forward our email to them or tag them on our IG. Until next time, take care of yourself, and take care of each other.
