WellcommATX: The Best of Austin's Wellness Community

[EVENTS RETURN] We’re bringing back Austin event coverage! But rather than share a long list, we’re curating one event per email and calling it our Hit Event. Keep reading to see what we picked this week, how we choose our Hit Events, and the experiences you can expect from Wellcomm going forward.
[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Karo Delosreyes, an Instructor at Barry's, Method Room, and JETSET Pilates Union Market in Washington, DC.
Wellcomm: Where do you workout?
Karo Delosreyes: Barry's, Method Room, and JETSET Pilates Union Market are my favorite studios for taking classes, especially Abs and Ass at Barry's right after I teach.
WC: What does wellness mean to you?
KD: Wellness is part of my self-care routine. No matter what mood I am in, I will always make time for a class or a run. I am also in school to be a therapist, so both physical and emotional wellness are priorities in my life.
WC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?
KD: My goals for the next twelve months include finally opening up JETSET and teaching reformer classes and getting my mat Pilates certification. I want to keep growing as an instructor, and DC has really supported me in that.
WC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?
KD: Kevin Albert DiMichele and Nazinga Thomas are my biggest inspirations in my fitness journey. They are the most supportive duo: my mom and dad, to be honest. Their classes are also my favorite.
WC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?
KD: My biggest piece of advice to anyone looking to join the fitness world is that the first class is always going to feel hard. When the classes start to feel like they're getting easier, remember that’s because you’re getting stronger.

[ATX HIT EVENT]
• What: International Day of Yoga Celebration, Austin’s largest outdoor yoga gathering featuring multiple yoga styles, wellness experiences, live music, giveaways, and complimentary food and drinks
• When: Saturday, June 21st from 9 am to Noon
• Where: Texas State Capitol lawn
• Why: This community-wide wellness event from Flow Yoga brings together yogis of all experience levels to celebrate International Day of Yoga, whether you're looking to improve flexibility and mobility, try your first yoga class, challenge yourself with a power flow, or simply enjoy a morning outdoors with great people.
• How: This event is free, but register in advance here, bring a yoga mat and water bottle, and arrive early to grab a good spot on the lawn.
How do we pick our Hit Events? They’re curated exclusively for our WellcommATX Community from former High Fives. Each week, we’ll highlight one standout fitness event in the WellcommATX email. This could be:
a group workout
a pop-up fitness event
a race or charity run
a pickleball tournament
a cycling ride
a recovery event or
anything else fitness-related
These events will be shared with all Wellcomm email subscribers, but submissions from former High Fives who are subscribers are prioritized, ideally for events they’re organizing, leading, or personally involved with.
We’ll feature one event per week, so spots are limited. We’re grateful for everything our High Fives do for our fitness community and are excited to share these exclusive ongoing updates from the best of Austin!
